How to Choose High Quality Tire Changer for Auto Shop?

Best tire changers are one of the most fundamental pieces of equipment any shop or garage owner can have and there are many accessories that you may need to consider when shopping for one. Roller or shovel-type bead separators, integrated tire inflation systems, air surge pulse for faster inflation speed and improved bead seating, low speed drive systems with increased torque for servicing tough combinations, and last but not least, leverless mounting/demounting. These are just specifications that may come with the tire changer but you must first keep in mind the type of vehicle that will be serviced.  All of these added bells and whistles may come at an elevated cost so it is important to remember what is best for your shop/garage and your wallet.
With so many different tire changers on the market, many customers ask for our guidance in how to choose the best one for their immediate needs. See our advice below:
Tire Machine for High-Volume Shops
Consider a tire changer that can handle the stresses involved, as well as be able to change a wide variety of tires. Suggest you purchase a tire machine that can handle both large and small wheels—and can handle low profile tires too. Low profile tires are becoming more and more prominent these days. And if you don’t have a tire machine specifically designed for them, you risk damaging pricey alloy wheels. Damage to an expensive set of rims can cost you thousands of dollars.
Speaking of specialty wheels, for example: flat tires, consider a tire machine that has a power assist, mounting helper arm. Even though it will increase the cost of the tire changer or wheel balancer, it will be worth it. Changing specialty tires can be a lucrative venture. Think of it as an investment that can pay off itself quickly. And it’s near impossible to change flat tires unless you have the right equipment.
Note with some tire machines, you can add the mounting helper arm at a later time.
Tire Machine for Low-Volume Shops
You should be fine with a basic tire machine that clamps onto the rim. Yes, the old center post tire changers had their day, but this is the era of rapid development of the automobile. Unless you plan to exclusively do steel rims, you’re going to need a modern machine that clamps onto the rims. Not only do they make changing tires much easier, but they also are much less likely to damage aluminum wheels.
